Professional orientation – career development

When we say career, we mean lifelong professional engagement. This is the process that we go through when we decide on our education, choice of jobs or employers. The job we do should provide us with a good quality of life. The better decisions we make, the better chances we have for a successful career.

If you can not answer the following questions you can ask for professional help:

  • What profession should I choose?
  • What school or university should I attend?
  • How can I advance my career?
  • Should I change something in my career and how can I do it?

Professional help comprises talks about the problems you want to resolve, psychological assessment of your fields of interest, your abilities, personality features and motivation. Special measuring instruments (questionnaires and tests) are used for psychological assessment. Testing lasts for two or three hours. The whole procedure is aimed at testing your professional abilities, so these are not clinical tests. After testing, you receive feedback on your achievements. The feedback is followed by counselling which lasts for one hour.

Depending on the problem you are resolving, different, specially designed programs are used. Counselling helps you to reconsider your abilities for professional development and to decide on the most realistic action. Sometimes only one counselling session is enough, and sometimes several sessions are needed. You will agree on that with a psychologist who specializes in professional orientation and career development.

Pupils who are attending the final years of elementary or secondary schools, as well as university students and all others who have doubts about their careers can contact us for help in professional orientation.
It easier to plan one’s career if one is well informed. That is why we recommend that you obtain necessary information about various jobs and conditions for education before you come for psychological assessment. That will give us more time for concrete questions which will help you decide what to do next.
